Port Moresby, Friday, July 11, 2025

Police from the NCD/Central Divisional Command have confirmed the arrest of a 29-year-old woman who was filmed physically abusing her toddler son in a disturbing video that surfaced on social media earlier this week.

The woman, identified as Fostina S. Langer from Wak Village, Southern Highlands Province, was apprehended by NCD police and charged. She is currently in custody and has been refused police bail. Authorities say she remains in detention while investigations continue.

The viral video, which caused public outrage, shows the woman aggressively hitting her toddler while verbally abusing him. In the footage, she can be heard making threatening statements, including: “Your daddy doesn’t care about you. I’ll throw you down the verandah.” The most chilling moment came with a caption she allegedly wrote: “I will kill the baby and you will come and eat his body.”

The toddler, believed to be between 1 and 3 years old, is now safe and under police protection as child welfare services initiate formal intervention.

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab praised the officers involved for their swift action. “Thank you to the members of the public who tagged us. The officers acted quickly, and justice is now in motion,” he said.

The incident has triggered a wave of strong public responses from social media:

  • Pombra Tatan: “Good job boys, just lock her behind bars.”
  • Maket Man: “She doesn’t deserve to have any children. This abuse has likely gone on for a long time. Thank you, police.”
  • Tyson David: “She was clever enough to film herself, but that video became her own trap. Well done to the officers.”
  • Elizah Nenginai: “Fostina, you should’ve asked your man for support. Beating an innocent child like this is pure abuse.”

Child protection advocates and police are urging the public to report any signs of child abuse, reminding everyone that a toddler is at one of the most vulnerable stages of life, requiring love, supervision, and safety.
