Police in Port Moresby have apprehended three teenage boys following a disturbing daylight incident near the Telikom Compound in Waigani, NCD, believed to be a coordinated assault on a young woman.
The incident occurred when a group of teenage boys allegedly forced a young female into a secluded bushy area and raped her. A police patrol, noticing suspicious movement in the area, stopped to investigate. As officers approached the scene on foot, they reportedly heard muffled voices coming from within the bushes.
According to authorities, the suspects were unaware of the officers’ presence due to their low positions in the tall grass. As police closed in, silence fell over the scene before several individuals attempted to flee. The officers gave chase and successfully apprehended three suspects at the scene.
The victim, who was found calling for help, was immediately assisted by police and is now receiving care and support. Investigations are ongoing, and police have confirmed that the identities of the remaining suspects are known and arrests are imminent.
Authorities have strongly condemned the incident and are urging the public, especially parents and community leaders, to work together to address rising concerns of youth-related violence.
