Avi, Jiwaka Province – A horrific road accident claimed six lives and left several others critically injured in a tragic head-on collision near Avi in the Anglimp District of Jiwaka Province. The incident occurred around 7:45 PM tonight.
According to eyewitness accounts, a Coaster bus bearing the registration number HBD 251 was descending a hill—possibly en route to Madang or Lae—when it collided head-on with a maroon Nissan four-door sedan, registration number LBI 843.
The impact was immediate and catastrophic. The smaller vehicle suffered extensive front-end damage, and all six passengers in the Nissan were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services responded swiftly, with police and ambulance personnel rushing to the crash site. The deceased and critically injured victims were transported to Mt. Hagen General Hospital. Multiple passengers from the Coaster bus, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
