Papua New Guinea welcomed home one of its youngest international achievers as 13-year-old Nathaniel Aposol Kandakasi, a Grade 6 student at Paradise High School, returned to Port Moresby on Saturday after winning the IFLC – Colours of Voice Award in Germany.

According to reports, Nathaniel arrived at Jacksons International Airport at around 8:00 AM, where he was met with cheers, applause, and emotional embraces from family members, schoolmates, and supporters. The terminal was filled with celebratory energy—complete with banners, balloons, and handmade congratulatory signs displaying his name.
Nathaniel represented Papua New Guinea at the International Festival of Language and Culture (IFLC), competing with young performers from around the world. His performance, which combined strong vocal ability and a rich display of cultural heritage, won over the judges and captivated a global audience, earning him first place in the highly regarded youth music competition.
In a statement, representatives from Paradise High School praised Nathaniel for his discipline and humility. One school administrator said Nathaniel had not only made the school proud but had also set an example for all students across the nation.
“Nathaniel is not just a student; he’s an ambassador of our culture and our country,” the representative said.
Family members were visibly emotional upon his return, with one relative stating that Nathaniel’s achievement had brought pride not only to the family but to the entire country.
“He has made us all proud—not just our family, but our entire nation,” they said.
Nathaniel’s international success has become a source of inspiration nationwide, reinforcing the belief that with talent, hard work, and community support, young Papua New Guineans can succeed on the global stage.
His story is being celebrated as a powerful reminder of the potential that lies within the youth of PNG—and the importance of nurturing it.
Welcome home, Nathaniel. PNG is proud of you.
